So far, pangasius has fetched more than 1.8 billion USD per year from 150 countries and territories worldwide, 21 per cent of which came from the EU.

This caused a bad impact on pangasius industry, forcing relevant agencies to seek a solution for a more sustainable development of tra fish in EU particularly and the world market as a whole.
These issues was tabled at a forum titled “Vietnamese Tra Fish Forum- VIETFISH 2014” with the theme of sustainable growth for pangasius in EU market, which was jointly organized by VASEP, project “Establishing a Sustainable Pangasius Supply Chain in Vietnam” (SUPA) and Vietnam Pangasius forum – where pangasius exporters and relevant state agencies could discuss and seek a best solution for enhancing Vietnamese paangsius images in the EU and other markets around the world. At the forum, the delegates agreed that local breeders, processors and exporters would make all efforts to meet the stricter requirements, including food safety and environmental responsibility, from the EU and other markets around the world.
