January 2025: Pangasius output estimated to reach 102,500 tons, marking a 6% increase

According to a report by the General Statistics Office, the estimated pangasius output for January 2025 reached 102.5 thousand tons, representing a 6.0% increase compared to the corresponding period of the preceding year. This surge is attributed to the rise in pangasius material prices within the Mekong Delta, which has incentivized aquaculture farmers to expand their stocking activities. Concurrently, this price increase has facilitated processing enterprises to intensify procurement efforts to meet export demands during the early part of the year.

Specifically, the pangasius output for January is estimated at 102,500 tons, reflecting a 6.0% increase year-on-year, driven by elevated pangasius material prices in the Mekong Delta. This price dynamic has served as an impetus for farmers to increase stocking densities and has enabled processing enterprises to augment purchasing volumes to satisfy export requirements in the initial months of the year.

Several key pangasius farming localities have recorded substantial gains in harvested output compared to the same period last year. These include Can Tho, exhibiting a 10.6% increase; Long An, with a 10.0% rise; Dong Thap, showing a 9.0% increment; and An Giang, registering a 6.9% growth.
