By mid-May of 2025, the aquaculture area (excluding breeding areas) was estimated at 3,503 hectares, a 14.44% increase compared to the same period last year. Of this, the area for intensive and semi-intensive pangasius farming was estimated at 614 hectares, a 0.66% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Total fishery output was estimated at 26,098 tons, up 5.86% year-on-year, including 25,444 tons from aquaculture (up 6%) and 654 tons from capture fisheries (up 0.62%).
For the first five months of 2025, the cumulative total fishery ouput reached an estimated 91,692 tons, up 6.01% year-on-year. This included 90,019 tons from aquaculture (up 6.06%) and 1,673 tons from capture fisheries (up 3.53%).
Currently, the price of raw pangasius ranges from VND 31,000 to 32,000 per kilogram (for fish weighing 750–950g each), an increase of VND 500 per kilogram compared to the same period last year. After deducting costs, farmers earn a profit of around VND 6,000 per kilogram—an ideal margin that encourages them to renovate ponds and expand production. In addition, the price of pangasius fingerlings ranges from VND 46,000 to 48,000 per kilogram.
