Among them, seafood stood out as the highlight and spearhead, attracting strong interest from many Chilean importers. Vietnamese pangasius, shrimp, and processed seafood products were highly appreciated for their quality, distinctive taste, and stable supply capacity. On the very first day, the Vietnam Pavilion welcomed hundreds of visitors, including many Chilean businesses expressing interest in long-term cooperation.
According to Ms. Ngo Thu Huong, Commercial Counsellor of Vietnam in Chile, Chile is a major seafood importer, serving both domestic consumption and re-export to other South American countries. However, Vietnam’s seafood market share here remains modest. Participation in this fair offers a valuable opportunity to promote Vietnamese brands, expand the partner network, and effectively leverage free trade agreements such as the VCFTA and CPTPP, which grant Vietnamese goods significant competitive advantages.
With a population of over 19 million and a high standard of living, Chile is considered a vital gateway for Vietnamese seafood to penetrate deeper into the South American market. In 2024, bilateral trade between the two countries reached nearly USD 1.8 billion, of which Vietnam’s exports amounted to about USD 1.4 billion, mainly consisting of seafood, coffee, rice, and cement. Strengthening trade promotion, building brand recognition, and taking full advantage of tariff incentives will enable Vietnamese seafood to expand its market share and affirm its position in this promising market.
