The area for commercial pangasius farming reached 2,630 hectares, a 10-hectare increase from 2023, with an estimated output of 540,000 tons, up by 15,000 tons compared to the previous year. The market for pangasius remains stable, with prices for commercial fish (0.7-0.8 kg/piece) ranging from VND 26,400 to 27,600 per kilogram. Meanwhile, production costs have decreased due to lower feed prices, enabling farmers to secure profits.
Currently, Dong Thap has 902 establishments dedicated to pangasius fry production and hatchering, including 52 fry production facilities and 850 hatcheries. In 2024, the province is estimated to produce 17 billion fry and 1.3 billion pangasius fingerlings.
On November 16-17, 2024, Dong Thap Province held the Pangasius Festival in Hong Ngu District under the theme “Green Journey – Green Value.” This significant event celebrates the traditional pangasius industry, a symbolic trade of the region, while highlighting the essential role of pangasius in Vietnam’s economic development and seafood exports.
The 2024 Pangasius Festival emphasized the importance of sustainable development in the pangasius sector, contributing to Vietnam’s seafood export turnover of over USD 2.4 billion annually and reinforcing the global reputation of Vietnamese pangasius in international markets.
