According to the Directorate of Fisheries (D-FISH)’s report, the country’s fisheries production in the first half of 2014 increased by 4.4 per cent compared to the same period last year. Of this figure, fishing production is estimated at 1,414 thousand tons, farming at 1,453 thousand tons. In terms of value, fisheries production is estimated at VND84,063 billion, an increase of 6 per cent compared to the same period last year, including farming and fishing of VND47,343 and 36,720 billion.
Regarding fishing, the weather in June was rather favorable for fishing. In the Central and South Central waters, there appeared pelagic schools, supporting fishing activities. In the first half of the year, fishing production gained 1.4 million tons, increased by 5.5 per cent, in which marine fishing reached over 1.3 million tons, an increase of 5.5 per cent compared to the same period last year.
