In the first six months, Japan imported 94.5 thousand ton of shrimp, valued US $ 1.18 billion, decreased 23% in volume and 9.4% in value when compared with the same period of last year. Vietnam is the largest shrimp supplier, accounted for a quarter market share at Japan, with over US $ 297 million, increased about 14%. Thailand is the second largest with 14% of market share, decreased 35% in shrimp export to this market.
