In 2021, Ca Mau province leads the country in seafood export turnover, with over 1 billion USD, accounting for more than 11% of the country’s seafood export. Following is Soc Trang province with 986 million USD, accounting for nearly 11%. Ranked 3rd with a turnover of 922 million USD, Ho Chi Minh City accounts for 10% of seafood turnover of the country.
In addition to the above 3 provinces/cities, the top 5 localities in seafood export also include Dong Thap and Khanh Hoa, accounting for 8.4% and 8.3% respectively of the country’s seafood export value with 764 million USD. and $753 million.
Most of the provinces/cities share the same trend of a sharp decrease in seafood exports in the third quarter due to the impact of the strong outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic. In the fourth quarter of 2021, the seafood export of Ho Chi Minh city has the strongest recovery trend. Accordingly, in December, Ho Chi Minh City has the highest seafood sales of the year with 127 million USD, which is also the highest level in the country. Ca Mau’s seafood exports also peaked in October with $127 million. In the last two months of the fourth quarter, although it recovered compared to the third quarter, it was much lower than the level before the peak of the epidemic in the second quarter.
In general, in the last 2 months of 2021, seafood exports of the provinces have recovered strongly compared to the third quarter, most of them have recovered to the equivalent of 80-100% of the sales of the second quarter, before the 4th Covid wave in Ho Chi Minh City and 19 southern provinces of Vietnam.
