The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development projects that the fishery production in the first half of 2024 will be 4,384.7 thousand tons, a 2.7% rise from the previous year.
The fishery production for June 2024 is 869.5 thousand tons, a 3.2% increase over the same time in the previous year. Forecast production for the second quarter of 2024 is 2,439.5 thousand tons, 2.9% more than the same period last year. Of which, the output of shrimp reached 366.6 thousand tons, an increase of 4.1% and fish reached 1,727.1 thousand tons, an increase of 2.8%.
The total aquatic output is predicted to increase by 2.7% to 4,384.7 thousand tons in the first half of 2024. Of which, fish reached 3,172.3 thousand tons, up 2.6%; shrimp reached 559.8 thousand tons, up 4.0%, specifically as follows:
Regarding aquaculture: Estimated aquaculture output in June 2024 is 513.3 thousand tons, up 3.9% from the same period the previous year. Of these, the expected volumes for shrimp and fish increase by 3.3% and 4.2%, respectively, at 136.8 and 318.8 thousand tons. The aquaculture production for the second quarter of this year is estimated at 1,364.3 thousand tons, an increase of 4.1% over the same time the previous year. It witnessed a 3.9% increase in fish at 884.1 thousand tons and a 4.4% increase in shrimp at 326.8 thousand tons.
An increase of 4.1% is anticipated for aquaculture output in the first half of 2024, reaching 2,431.4 thousand tons. Among them, shrimp reached 487.7 thousand tons, up 4.5%, while fish reached 1,656.7 thousand tons, up 4.0%.
Pangasius farming: Estimated production in June 2024 is 164.9 thousand tons, a 4.8% increase over the same month last year. Estimates for pangasius output in the second quarter show a 5.8% increase to 462.1 thousand tons. Pangasius production is predicted to reach 831.8 thousand tons in the first half of 2024, a 5.4% increase over the same period last year;
Brackish water shrimp farming: Production of white-leg shrimp is expected to reach 100.9 thousand tons in June 2024, up 3.9% from the same month the previous year. It is estimated to reach 233.9 thousand tons in the second quarter, up 5.4%; and 332.7 thousand tons in the first half of 2024, up 5.6%.
The production of black tiger shrimp is expected to increase by 2.2% in June 2024 to 26.5 thousand tons, up from the same time in the previous year; by 2.3% in the second quarter to 73.2 thousand tons, and by 2.3% in the first half of 2024 to 122.1 thousand tons, up from the previous year.
Regarding fishery capturing: The production of wild fish captured in June 2024 is expected to be 356.2 thousand tons, up 2.2% from the same period the previous year; the production is projected to rise by 1.5% in the second quarter to 1,075.2 thousand tons; and by 1.0% in the first half of the year to 1,953.3 thousand tons, up 1.0%, with fish reaching 1,515.6 thousand tons, up 1.1%, and shrimp reaching 72.1 thousand tons, up 0.9%.
Fishing production in June 2024 is estimated at 339.9 thousand tons, up 2.3% compared to the same period last year; the second quarter is estimated at 1,027.7, up 1.4%; in the first 6 months it is estimated at 1,864.1 thousand tons, up 0.9%, of which fish reached 1,455.3 thousand tons, up 1.1%; shrimp reached 67.4 thousand tons, up 0.7%.
The ocean tuna catch of the 3 key tuna fishing provinces is estimated at 11,281.7 tons, down 0.3% compared to the same period in 2023, of which Phu Yen is estimated at 2,356 tons, up 7.1%; Binh Dinh is estimated at 7,500 tons, up 2.1%; Khanh Hoa is estimated at 1,425 tons, equal to 80.3% of the same period in 2023.
