Vietnam ranks among top 4 seafood exporters to Singapore

In the first three months of 2025, Vietnam’s seafood exports to Singapore reached 28.7 million SGD, marking a 19.3% increase compared to the same period in 2024 and accounting for 10.1% of Singapore’s total seafood imports.

Vietnam has now become Singapore’s fourth-largest seafood supplier, trailing only Malaysia, Indonesia, and Norway. Notably, Vietnam holds the largest market share for the import category of chilled and frozen fish fillets and meat (code 0304). This marks the first time Vietnam has broken into the top four seafood exporters to Singapore.

Fish fillets and frozen fish meat (0304) remain Vietnam’s strongest performing seafood category in Singapore, generating 14 million SGD in the first quarter of 2025, up 2.5% year-on-year, and capturing a 27.8% market share. Vietnamese products continue to dominate this segment in Singapore.

In addition to fish fillets, Vietnam also recorded notable exports of crustaceans (code 0306) and mollusks (code 0307), valued at 5.6 million SGD and 4.9 million SGD respectively, accounting for 8.3% and 16.5% of Singapore’s import market share in these categories. Both segments posted positive growth in the first quarter, indicating further room for expansion.

To support Vietnamese seafood enterprises in diversifying markets amid trade tensions with the U.S., the Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore held a working session with VASEP (Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers) in early April 2025.

During the meeting, the two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in providing market intelligence, facilitating trade connections, organizing promotional events, and encouraging participation in seafood exhibitions in Singapore. These efforts aim to boost the visibility of Vietnamese seafood and help businesses secure new partners and expand market share.

The Trade Office also projects that Singapore’s seafood import market will remain stable in the near future, offering Vietnam continued opportunities, especially in the frozen fish fillets segment. However, competition will intensify across other categories such as crustaceans and mollusks, where Vietnamese seafood will face strong rivals from Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Japan, and India.

To maintain and enhance its competitive edge, the Trade Office advises Vietnamese seafood exporters to prioritize strict quality control, stay updated on Singapore’s regulatory requirements, innovate product packaging, and continuously improve product quality and productivity.
