Vietnam exported USD 33 million worth of squid and octopus to Thailand in the first half of 2025, up 37% year-on-year, according to Vietnam Customs. Thailand is now the country’s fourth-largest market for these products, accounting for 10% of total export value.
Squid exports reached USD 32.5 million, up 35.6% from last year and representing 98.4% of the total. Dried, grilled and ready-to-eat squid brought in USD 30.24 million, up nearly 30%, while fresh, chilled and frozen squid jumped 254% to USD 2.28 million.
Octopus exports totaled USD 0.51 million, rising 149.9%. Processed octopus surged 250.9%, while dried, salted, fresh and frozen products grew 43.4%. Industry sources said the category has scope for more value-added product development.
Thailand’s seafood market has high demand, few technical barriers and consumer tastes similar to Vietnam’s. However, competition is increasing as Thailand expands imports from lower-cost origins such as China, Argentina and India.
Viko held a 32.5% market share, followed by S.R.V. Intergroup and Hoa Nam. With stable demand and growth in both processed and fresh segments, industry analysts expect Vietnam’s squid and octopus exports to Thailand to remain strong in the coming months.
