Since 2023, Vietnam’s tuna exports to Egypt have shown steady growth. In the first four months of 2025, export turnover reached nearly USD 4 million – a 72% increase year-on-year. Canned tuna remains the dominant product, accounting for over 82% of total export value, followed by frozen and processed varieties.
Thailand is currently Egypt’s leading supplier of canned tuna. However, an increasing number of Egyptian importers are seeking alternative partners to diversify their sources, creating new opportunities for Vietnamese exporters.
Egypt’s import demand is also rebounding as the country emerges from a foreign currency shortage crisis, providing favorable conditions for Vietnamese goods. As Africa’s second-largest economy with a GDP of USD 347.59 billion, and a top destination for foreign direct investment in the region, Egypt represents Vietnam’s most important trade partner in North Africa.
Since early 2025, both governments have intensified dialogue to improve market access and promote sustainable trade cooperation. In 2023, bilateral trade turnover reached USD 486.6 million, with Vietnam exporting USD 432 million worth of goods, primarily agricultural products, seafood, and textiles.
Amid challenges in the U.S. and EU markets, Egypt presents a promising alternative for expanding tuna exports. However, competition is intensifying as more countries target this growing market. Vietnamese enterprises must proactively adapt and call for stronger government support, particularly in securing stable domestic raw material supplies.
