Developing the super-intensive shrimp farming model in Bac Lieu province

After more than three years of application, super-intensive shrimp farming is considered a model that brings production efficiency and is expected to be expanded and developed soon.

According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Bac Lieu province currently has more than 20 companies and nearly 700 households implementing the super-intensive shrimp farming model, with a total area of more than 3,900ha. The rate of household success in using this farming shrimp model is about 65%. The average productivity of round ponds is 2 – 2.5 tons shrimp/ 500m3 water. This productivity is high, ranging from 2.7 to 3.2 tons of shrimp per pond. The output of tarpaulin-lined pond reaches an average of 4-5 tons/1,000m2 with high productivity, 7-9 tons/pond.

In particular, some companies have reached an average yield of 10-20 tons/ha/year. These firms have short farming time, provide large shrimp sizes with guaranteed quality, and therefore achieve a profit of billions of VND/ha.

Because the weather and diseases have had little impact on shrimp farming lately, the high-tech shrimp farming model (super-intensive farming) in Bac Lieu province that many companies and farmers have applied brings high economic efficiency.

Productivity, output, and economic efficiency are the outstanding features that make the super-intensive shrimp farming model desirable and attractive. Therefore, this “rich” shrimp farming model is being applied by more and more farmers. Currently, high-tech shrimp farmers are using the farming method in two stages to manage shrimp diseases well, monitor shrimp growth, and save costs in production.
