Vietnamese shrimp sharply increased market share in the Netherlands

Vietnam’s shrimp imports into the Netherlands increased sharply in the first half of 2022, increasing Vietnam’s shrimp market share in this important market.

According to the Agency of Foreign Trade, data from the ITC shows that in the first 6 months of 2022, Vietnam is the largest shrimp supplier in terms of value and the second largest in volume for the Netherlands. Specifically, the Netherlands imported 8.3 thousand tons of Vietnamese shrimp, worth $80 million, up 54.4% in volume and 65.6% in value over the same period in 2021.

Vietnam’s shrimp market share in total Netherlands imports increased from 12.8% in volume and 12.3% in value to 18.4% in volume and 19.4% in value in the first 6 months of 2022. The market share of Vietnamese shrimps in the total imports of the Netherlands increased over the same period in 2021, especially two types of processed shrimp with HS codes 160521 and 160529.

Also according to ITC, the Netherlands shrimp imports in the first 6 months of 2022 reached 45.08 thousand tons, worth 411.5 million USD, up 7.5% in volume and 4.8% in value compared to the same period in 2021. In the first 6 months of 2022, the Netherlands increased shrimp imports from markets such as Vietnam, India, Belgium, Bangladesh, Germany, Indonesia, Denmark, Honduras, the US, China.
